About The Biology Department
Foundation of the Department
The department of biological science is an important section of the faculty of science and art, which is closest to the daily human life. The biological department has been established in the academic year 1430/1431 AH; 2009/2010 AD. The department grants a bachelor degree to the students after passing the needed courses. The graduation requirements for undergraduate program are 128 credit hours (26 credit hours are basic university requirements, 32 credit hours for department requirements, 30 credit hours as obligatory courses, 10 credit hours of selective courses and 6 credit hours as free courses).
Vision
The vision of the department is to make learning processes interesting and useful for both lecturer and learner through the improvement of human capabilities to carry out educational and research mission to have effective specialized graduates that contribute in country and civilization building.
Mission
The mission of our department is to prepare for efficient graduates capable of performance of his educational duties, highly skilled scientific research under the light of electronically technologies and globalization to serve the our nation and sons on the bases of our religious values.
Objectives
- To prepare qualified graduates able to carry out responsibility of scientific research in the area of biological science.
- Rehabilitation of graduates to study different phenomena in the flora, fauna and microorganisms and the environmental studies in Saudi Arabia.
- Keep abreast of scientific development at various fields through access to the latest hardware and equipment in the areas of biology that depend on nanotechnology.
- Provide the government and private sectors with highly qualified scientifically cadres upscale in all areas biology.

The environmental biotechnology branch is considered a rare specialcity in King Abdualaziz University so this program aims to:
- Development of biological courses in biotechnology and environmental biology to cope with similar department of globalized universities.
- To serve the labor market in biotechnology requirement.
- To support the scientific and research objectives of the college and university.
Justification of the proposed program:
- King Abdualaziz University desire to be associated with all developments in natural sciences in order to plan for new field of study including more developed learning materials, moreover King Abdualaziz University plans for teaching strategies and evaluation methods that accompanies and suits universal standards and recent scientific theories. Besides King Abdualaziz University hopes to provide encouraging atmosphere in order to achieve high qualify levels and upgrade students in achievement and employ technical development in the sciences.
